In Fall 2025, my nine-year-old son interrupted me mid-vent about a work policy with the kind of question adults avoid because it’s too efficient: “But if the policy doesn’t fit, why can’t you just make an exception because you need it? Or change the policy?” I told him I wasn’t in a position to make those decisions. “Only the bosses?” he asked. “Yeah, bud. Only the bosses.” He paused, then said, very matter-of-factly: “Well, you should go be a boss, because people really need nice bosses.”
